Question...Please help with Galveston port after cruise

Do you have any information on The Cruise Stop by Galveston Pier. I was told we can drop our luggage there for a small fee and walk around that area downtown. Any information would be great. I know they close at 3 p.m. but how far is it from the pier in walking distance? Has anybody ever had any experience with this.?
