Carnival Freedom going to Spain for refurbishing

September 2023 the Freedom has a transatlantic to Spain. I remember reading somewhere that it was going there for dry dock refurbishment.

 If we were to book the voyage going will the ship be in shambles since it’s on its way for an overhaul or will they maintain it as they normally do all ships. 
 And  does anyone know if the dry dock work is just maintenance or are they adding stuff to it making the return voyage three weeks later more attractive?

It’s definitely a risk to take a cruise before or after a dry dock. If they are wanting to get a head start on the work, your cruise may be effected. If they don’t get all their work done on time , the cruise after could be effected. I have yet to hear anything about any major overhauls to the ship other than a proper repair to the funnel back to its whale tail shape.

There have been scattered reports of the Tail replacing the current stack on the Freedom.  Other reports of a “freshening” of others areas as well.  There’s not a lot of overhauling to be done within a three week slot.

 

We are taking this sail as we’d like to return to Bermuda and the Azores, and have never been to Spain.  So it’s the ports that attracted us, not the ships condition.  Getting the balcony for free was also a decision maker.
