Rental car shuttle to port Miami?

Hi! Just want to know if anyone has any idea what is the best way to go to the port. We are flying into Ft. Lauderdale and renting a car for the day before the cruise. There will be five of us. We leave out of Port Miami the next day. Is it better to have my DH drop us off at the port and then return the car - or is it better for all of us to go with him, drop off the car, and take a shuttle or cab to the port. Do any car rental places have free shuttles to the port from drop off area? Thanks a lot for any advice on this matter!

We used Thrifty last year and they had a free shuttle bus. From port and to the airport.

is that TO THE PORT from the Thrifty car place or just from the port to the Thrifty car place, to the airport? Am I confusing you? Sorry!!!
