NCL Radio Commercials

About a month or two ago I started a thread asking why NCL never advertised on television, especially here in the New York market in which they have two ships, the Dawn and the Spirit, sailing year round, especailly since some of the other cruiseship companies constantly advertise on tv. Several of the posters responded that they indeed advertise on television during the local news here while other posters said they did or didn't do much advertising where they lived either.

 

Now comes word that NCL is advertising on the radio here in the New York City area. They sponsor the local traffic and weather reports every ten minutes on the all news channel WCBS 880 on the am dial. After the traffic and weather report they speak about the two ships and how they have about 60 departures throughout the year to the Bahamas, Canada, New England, Bermuda and the Carribean. Sometimes the announcers banter about going to the warm south, especially during the recent two foot snow storm that we had.

 

Does NCL ever advertise on radio, or sponsor any portions of radio programs, where you live?

If you listen closely the advertisements are not for NCL directly. They are ads for Travelocity or Liberty Travel reselling NCL cruises that depart NYCity. Although they mention NCL cruises, they steer peopel to their own repsective websites.

That sounds like typical co op advertising. NCL pays a portion the agency pays a portion.
