Are there any longer hiking trails at Mendenhall Glacier?

I read about the hike to The Harding Ice Field at Exit Glacier and thought it sounded great. Then I read that the trail usually doesn't open until late June at the earliest. I was so disappointed. Are there any trails that take you high enough to get a view of the ice field at Mendenhall? We will be there May 25.
