Monte Carlo with a teen girl

Recommended Posts

Has anyone done the aquarium in Monte Carlo? Is it just okay or does it compare favorably to many of the fabulous aquariums in the US?

Any suggestions on some must see's and must do's in Monte Carlo? Can't go in to see the Casino with my teen, so that is not an option? We are on a Princess cruise in early June. How hard is it to just get a cab to and from the tender area?

My daughter spent 3 weeks at a language school there and eventho they were not allowed in the casino, the teens had a blast at the beach, shopping, people watching and just being there and speaking French.

Have your daughter do a bit of research on the Monaco people, the Philadelphia connection with the Kelly family and the whole history of the area....it will make a difference.

I assume you will doing Monaco side as well...lots to see and do there re the Palace, the homes of the princess's,shops and winding streets with some good shops. On the MC side there is al ot osee and do as well w/o the Casino.Have lunch or coffee by the Casino right next to the American Casino actually and people watch. There is an underground shopping center right there as well(under the hotel) ,and it 's really fun to walk around that area.As for the aquarium it is ok IMHO and really depends on the teenager. You should have no problem getting a cab.

Thanks for all of your help. We will be in port on a Sunday. Is it true that most if not all of the shops are closed on Sunday's? I really want to get some Grand Prix souvenirs for my nephews!

Probably a lot of the mainstream stores will be closed, but there will be some touristy stores open and you should be able to get some things you want. There used to be a great shop by the middle road under the Casino..you take the elevator down or up to the level you want that had some really nice souvenirs at really reasonable prices, but you should find some shops on the Monaco side as well.Just ask and someone will be able to help you find a good shop....:)

The aquarium in Monte Carlo is world class. The exhibits are on the lower level. You'll see things there that you won't see in the States. Plus, they grow their own live coral...that's very rare. It's a fascinating place.

Buses are easy and inexpensive. Go up to the old town for shopping and the changing of the guard at the palace. It's a very pretty area to wander with a beautiful botanic garden and great views.

Enjoy your visit.

Marcia

Thanks for the encouraging info on the aquarium and the tourist shops. Since my last post, I have been surfing and saw that Jacques Cousteau was the director there for a long time, so it probably is fabulous! I just hope it is open on Sunday! We will probably get the trolley that stops at the aquarium to get a ride into the main area of Monte Carlo.

Well said.

Touring Monaco on your own, the beach, the marina, the palace, there is so many wonderful things to see - free.
