cruzin princess Posted August 7, 2006 #1 Share Posted August 7, 2006 Hi: Will be in Aruba from 9-7 to 9-14 staying at the Aruba resort, spa & casino (formerly Wyndham). Can anyone tell me if there is a sports bar to go and watch the games? It is the opening weekend and even though we will be in paradise, can't possibly miss the games. Thanks for your help!! jmo1 Posted August 10, 2006 #2 Share Posted August 10, 2006 Don't expect to be able to watch your particular game of interest. The US networks that carry the NFL are generally not available in Aruba. The satellite transponder beamwidths only cover the US. The ESPN channel for Latin America might carry a game or two.
Arubalisa Posted August 11, 2006 #3 Share Posted August 11, 2006 Ask around at the resort, but you might have better luck at the Holiday Inn (they have sports book gaming) or Champions Sport Bar at the Marriott's Ocean Club.
cruzin princess Posted August 12, 2006 Author #4 Share Posted August 12, 2006 Thanks Lisa we will do that. I read your website and it was a fountain of information. We are staying at the Aruba Resort & Casino (Wyndham) the week of 9-7 and my DH will die without his Sunday football.
PhillyTom Posted August 21, 2006 #5 Share Posted August 21, 2006 I just came back from a weeks vacation at the Aruba Resort, Spa and Casino. Okay resort. Wasn't thrilled with accomodations. Large construction site next door. Get your room changed if it overlooks the construction. They have a open bar in the lobby across from registration. Bar has two large TV's that show sports programs 24/7. That's the closest thing you'll come to a Sports Bar. Elevator's in Hotel are horrible. Only three of the four are working and when I was there, they were down to only two elevators during the busy weekend arrivals. Extremely long lines sometimes to use elevators. I became friendly with HOtel's mechanic because of room fixes, so he allowed me to use service elevator instead of waiting for guest elevators. Make sure you get to beach cabana early to reserve your hut, because they are usually all reserved by 9:30 am each morning. If I can be of any other assistance, please don't hesitate to ask. Had a wonderful time in Aruba, but was less than thrilled with Aruba Beach Resort, Spa and Casino. Make sure you book the Kukookunuku Bus Tour at the Hotel Accomodations desk. It's a blast and well worth the $59.00 Bus picks you up at hotel around 6:00 pm and you arrive back at 12:00 am. If you like to sing, dance and party with other people, you'll enjoy this excursion. Avoid Tattoo Party Boat, you'll see it docked in water from your beach. This $39.00 excursion is geared more towards kids in their 20's (unless you fit into that catagory.) City bus stops right outside Hotel and cost $2.00 round trip. Pay when you get on, and ask driver for round trip ticket, then pay $2.00 It's about a 15 minute ride into town. Downtown is last stop for bus. You catch bus at same location for trip back to Hotel. Better than taking a taxi at $15.00 per trip one way.
