Bar Harbor whale watch

We have reserved a whale watch shore excursion through NCL in Bar Harbor. The time for the excursion is 1:00 pm and it says the duration of the tour is 3 1/2 hours. That puts us up to 4:30 and the ship is due to leave at 5:00 pm. Bar Harbor is a tender port so that's cutting it pretty close. I know that if your excursion is late the ship will wait if you have booked through them. I'm just wondering if the times will change since they know going out that they won't be back in time. How will we find that out if they change it to leave a bit earlier? We'd like to explore Bar Harbor in the am and then meet up with the tour without returning to the ship

They may just use the whale watching boat as a tender and drop you off right at the ship. If this is a regular excursion offered, they will have it worked out. Definitely a good thing you are going through the ship on this one though.
