greatam Posted July 12, 2004 #1 Share Posted July 12, 2004 If you want cheaper airfare, you must be FLEXIBLE. May mean booking two different carriers. Example: I fly to our NYC office once a month. AA is my preferred carrier. I prefer to fly nonstop Phoenix/NYC. However, there are times when PHX/NYC(any airport, including Newark) is over $600.00 in coach. So now I must figure the time/money equation. I figure I make $50.00 per hour. If I fly PHX/LA (any airport and some are definitely cheaper than LAX-make sure you check out alternate airports), and then fly LA/NYC (any airport) I need to figure my time to make two flights. This is for a business trip-not for pleasure, where you can afford a little more time and it should not be figured into you wages. Example: Leave Phoenix-10:00AM. Must be at PHX airport no later than 8:30Am-1 hour flight. Layover-LA 1 1/2 hour-leave LA 12:45M Arrive Newark at 9:12 (6:12 LA time). Total time-approx 10 hours. Normal PHX/NYC flight-5 hours. Do I save $250.00, including shuttle from Newark to NYC, time I wait, etc? Sometimes I do and sometimes I don't. What is your priority??? For those of you cruising, look at alternate airports, two tickets, etc. There really are ways to cut the airfare. Look at my example. I fly A LOT-AA EXP (over 100,000 miles per year) I have gotten this down to a science. If you need help, email-greatam@earthlink.net.
