Caribbean Classic

We are thinking of booking cruise J628 but have never cruised before and have some reservations.:o We are in an usual situation as we live in a small Greek village (but will be flying from Manchester as we will have travelled back to the UK to spend Xmas there) and therefore do not posess formal wear as we don't need it here. Obviously we have lots of smart clothes but in our climate my husband never wears a jacket. How often will he be required to wear jacket and tie? Will it need to be a tux? Is it just for dinner or the whole evening?

Also does anyone know what currency is accepted on our ports of call. We have American dollars to use from our last holiday.

Has anyone out there any comments to make on the Arcadia or this particular cruise.

What do all the 'extra' costs run to aboard.

Any advise would be welcome

Vera & Mike

Hi,

We will be travelling on this cruise, we booked last April.

In the Caribbean there will be 4 formal nights and the rest will be smart casual.

The vast majority of cruisers on P&O follow the suggested dress code and I think you may feel out of place if you decide not to pack according to the code.

From P&O website:-

"On formal evenings, for ladies this is the opportunity to wear something glamorous and dressy such as a formal evening or cocktail outfit. For men a dinner jacket or tuxedo are the norm, otherwise a suit and tie is fine.....while for Smart Casual evenings stylish resort or leisurewear is ideal, eg open-necked shirt and long trousers for men (jackets are most definitely not required), casual separates or dresses for ladies. We would request that sportswear, eg trainers and track suits are not worn."

Maybe you could think about hiring a tux just for the duration of the cruise?

I'm not sure whether or not admittance to the dining room would be refused if you chose not to comply, but the code applies to all public places for the duration of the evening.

It would be a shame if you let this stop you booking as cruising is such an easy way to see different places.

The currency on board will be sterling but US dollars will be accepted in the ports.

We haven't travelled on Arcadia before and we are really looking forward to sailing on her.

We are looking forward to seeing New Orleans and Mayreau for the first time.

Have a look at the destination boards for further information on the different ports, there is lots of information available.

Hope the dress code doesn't put you off because I think this will be a wonderful holiday.

Hi

Thanks for you reply and advise. Well, we've booked! Just have to kit Mike out with suit/dinner jacket etc., he can always wear it again on the next cruise!!! Really looking forward to it. We've opted for Club Dining instead of Freedom Dining, hope we've made the right decision. See you on December 1st.

Hi Cosmic,

Don't think you'll regret it.

Check out the P&O Roll calls - there is one for this cruise.

Maybe see you on board.

Didn't have a choice between Freedom and Club dining when we booked.

I think we are on Club - a set dining seating, although this won't stop us choosing to dine elsewhere occasionally.

We're going to try out Arcadian Rhodes - have heard good reports of it.
