guaranteed room

I have booked a guaranteed oceanview room on the Liberty in March. We've cruised twice before, but never with a guaranteed room. What kind of luck have you had with getting the good rooms? Is is better to go ahead and book a specific room?

I have always booked a specific cabin, because I want to be midship, on a low passenger deck (less motion = less seasickness). Also, I like to get a cabin that is not directly below a noisy area like the disco, casino, etc.

If you don't care where you are located on the ship, then a guarantee is a great way to save a little $$$. If you are at all concerned about the location of your cabin, you should book a specific cabin.

I think those who get upgrades with a guarantee booking are the exception rather than the norm. Don't book guarantee expecting to get upgraded; then if you do get lucky enough to get an upgrade ~ GREAT! :)

We booked Gty on our first two cruises. Our first one we were bumped up to oceanview and then the second one, we got an assigned cabin, bumped up to a higher deck, but still the same category (inside)....but we ended up paying extra for oceanview as a splurge to ourself.

Good luck!

I pick my cabin. Midship balcony upper deck. If they had balconies on Riviera deck thats where I would be. Less motion. I will pay for picking the cabin I want then no disappointment when you get a crappy cabin. (someone has to get them)

Just my opinion.

If you booked a gty oceanview, that is the worst you can do.

It is possible to get upgraded to a balcony.

Guest CRUZIN' SUZIN

has been a guaranteed room. I book Cat. 1A and have always been bumped up to at least a 4 category inside room. This is a great way to try to get a upgrade. They happen. Not always but they happen as often as they don't.

I am not prone to motion sickness, am a night owl (to the wee-wee-wee hours) and, once I finally go to bed, I can sleep through a tornado so I can be put into a noisy/swaying room and would probably love it. :D However, if you are an early to bed, light sleeper, etc., booking a guaranty may be too risky.

In fact, I always wait until all of the Cat 1A rooms are gone before I book my Cat 1A guar. That way I am less likely to be assigned a Cat 1A room.:p

This is a gamble I am willing to take.

To Boundingmaynard, why do you say a guaranteed OV is the worst?

I believe what Boundingmaynard meant was that if you book a guaranteed OV you will not get a cabin that is a lower category than that, not that a guaranteed OV is a bad thing. :)

if location is very important to you, pay the additional $ and pick the cabin. I always think worst case scenerio... lounge keeping me up late, elevator with noisy people, in the back corner? If any of these things might irritate you, pick your room out. I've done guarentees three times, never a balcony upgrade:mad: it does save some $$ if you don't care, so consider that.

I've only cruised twice, always the least expensive.

First cruise (HAL) upgraded to an ocean view.

Second (Carnival) inside on a higher deck.

I just don't care too much about my cabin, I'm not cruising for a room, I'm cruising for fun. :D

For my upcoming cruise we originally booked a inside guarantee (military rate). We're now booked in a Oceanview room (a 6B & already know the cabin #) thanks to price decreases that have occured. Not bad if you ask me!

Oh and I would have been happy with an inside room, never had anything but. I'm only there to shower an sleep so techincally I'd sleep anywhere! :D
