Ferry Information to St. John's

I'm not sure if you can get to St. John's in Antigua from St. Thomas via ferry. But if you could it would not be very convenient.

If you mean the ferry to St. John in the U.S. Virgin Islands: there is a ferry that runs on the hour from Red Hook, which is on the east end of St. Thomas. The ferry ride takes about 15 - 20 minutes.

[ Hmmmm....Cruise Critic won't let me post a link to an online ferry schedule on V I N O W . C O M. What's up with that? It's a schedule, for pete's sake!  ]

Use these Google search results to get to that site and view the schedule and fares:

You can take the ferry from downtown Charlotte Amalie which is a longer ride. Or you can take the ferry from Red Hook, which is a taxi/bus ride to the dock and then a shorter ride to St. John. They also have different schedules. The info is out there, just visit the website above or Google it.

There is a more convenient ferry that leaves from downtown St Thomas. The fare is reasonable because it is part of the public transportation system

But it takes longer and doesn't run as frequently as the one from Red Hook. You need to weigh which one is best for you.

Hello,

There are 2 ferry departure/arrival points on St. Thomas, Charlotte Amalie and Red Hook. Both ferries go to Cruz Bay St. John.

The ferry schedules are different, so is the price and time it takes to get to St. John.

If you were taking a taxi to get to the ferry points then... The Charlotte Amalie ferry takes longer (35-45 minutes) and is more expensive ($10 ow, pp) while the taxi ride is shorter (6 minutes) and less expensive ($4 ow, pp)… than the Red Hook ferry ($5 pp, ow, 15 minutes) and taxi ride ($10-$11 pp, ow and 20-30 minutes depending on which dock you are at). When added together the time (if there isn’t a traffic problem) and cost are quite similar.

You'd want to consider the schedule to see which is better for you to take based on your plans.

  • 2 weeks later...

Surely do hope you're still out there. Here is our dilemma. We are arriving on Christmas Day!! NCL Jewel itinerary states 8:00 - 5:00, which means a lot less time than that. We want to see St. John and end up at a beach. Do you think we can catch a ferry at Charlotte Amalie, then hook up with a taxi at St. John who'll take us on a little island tour then leave us at a beach, preferably with lounge chairs & umbrellas? We'd like a nice place with the possibility of a light lunch. Then we'd catch a taxi back to the ferry and get back to the ship. Does this sound doable? Do you have any suggestions?

Thank you so much. :)
