Hookedonfishing Posted February 25, 2007 #1 Share Posted February 25, 2007 Has anyone taken the boat tour of the canal. The one that goes to Gamboa ,thru the Gaylord Cut and to the pacific? How long is this tour and are there restrooms on the Bus and Ferry? Also what is the light snack? Am leaving on the Opera on 2/27. Thanks Bill:)
Twaincruisers Posted February 26, 2007 #2 Share Posted February 26, 2007 We took this tour on the Lirica and enjoyed the experience of going through the cut for the first time and through the Pacific locks. There are restrooms on the boat; not sure about the bus. The light snack is a small sandwich that is about 4/5s bread...nothing to look forward to and some dessert or candy. Going through the locks on a ship is much more impressive as far as we are concerned, but we are glad we did this because you see them widening the canal for when the new locks are built. (I would recommend reading the book Path Between the Seas or better yet, see the movie. We saw the movie on our ship after we went through the Atlantic locks on our first cruise.) Our tour ran almost 3 hrs long which the CD attributed that night to traffic. It wasn't traffic; it was scheduling...we got to the locks long before we were scheduled. Not sure how they would do it in the original time, but it could be a lot shorter. Overall, it was worth it.
