Half-empty sailings?

I was wondering if it ever happens that a ship sails with far less than the maximum capacity? I'm still months out from my August sailing of course, but there are still TONS of cabins available. Makes me wonder if we'll have a nice, empty ship to play on! ;)

I know, I know...wishful thinking.

Princess will usually offer flash specials (much lower pricing) on those sailings which are not selling well. These prices are good for new bookings only and usually occur after final payment is made.

Yep, in these times sailing on a half empty ship is just that 'wishful thinking' .

I don't think this happens very much anymore at all. The only time it happened to me was back in Nov 2002 when I sailed on the HAL Prinsendam from Sydney to Auckland for 16 days. This is a small ship to begin with, only holds less than 800 passengers and is about 35,000 tons. On our cruise there were about 550 aboard and it felt like a private yacht. Was told that on a couple of the previous repos getting over to Australia that there were only about 350 aboard! I went to several lectures/progams and there might have been about a dozen people in the showroom. Most activities wer cancelled because not enough people came. I watched the "Not so Newylwed" game and there were 4 couples on stage and about 10 people in the audience. Sure was a fun cruise though.

Never fear it will be full by the time you sail!
