Post-Cruise Excursions

Mom and I have a 6pm flight back home after our cruise (Carnival Fantasy to Bahamas on 9/19) and don't want to be stuck carrying our luggage around for hours.

 

We're thinking of booking an excursion in Port Canaveral to extend our vacation a bit, but I'm confused on how that works. Does the cruiseline hold your luggage at the pier for you? Does the excursion bus bring it along? How do these things work?

If you take one of Carnival's excursions the bus keeps your luggage and then drops you off at the airport. You might consider renting a car for the day!

I'm thinking of doing the Fun in the Sun excursion in Port Canaveral. Just realized that it says 3.5 hours, but then says a shuttle leaves every 30 minutes back to the pier. So confused. I'm just wondering what they do with our luggage while we're there.
