Miami - Car Rental

Traveling to Miami for our cruise in June. Flying into FLL and then planning on staying overnight at the Courtyard Miami Beach Oceanfront.

Trying to decide if we should get a car rental for the drive to the hotel and use that night. But, then we would have to drop it off the next morning before heading to the Port of Miami.

1) Would that really be 'easier'?

2) What car rental company has the best drop off/shuttle services?

3) Any comments on the Courtyard Miami Beach Oceanfront?

Thanks!

A rental might not be as convinient as you'd expect for only one night. For starters parking in Miami Beach is scarce and not cheap. I think you'll have a headache just parking the car and paying a lot of money to valet it through the hotel or in a parking garage. Since you are already in the heart of South Beach you really won't need a car to get around. Walking the area is more fun anyway and you can always take a quick cab to anywhere you want to go on the beach.

There are three rental car companies located minutes from the port: Hertz (which apparently offers a free shuttle), Enterprise and Avis.

I personally think it will be much less expensive and less of a headache to just cab it to your hotel and then cab it to the port.

Thanks for the reply! We were originally planning on staying downtown but decided to try a night in South Beach. After reading some of the other posts, I figured a rental might not be the best thing for that location. We'll probably just use cabs to get around. Thanks again for the advice.

I reserved a car for after the cruise from Hertz with the shuttle to the "Port of Miami" location. We are driving to another part of FL. Think you made a wise decision to not book a car prior to the cruise esp. if you were staying in SoBe. You can walk to a lot there and then the taxi ride isn't terrible to the Port.
