Which is better for wheelchair user - Royal, Celebrity, or Princess - Hawaii 2008

Happy Monday All,

We are thinking of booking a 2008 Hawaii cruise out of LA/Long Beach/San Diego are. My husband is disabled, confined to a wheelchair. We wanted to know if anyone has been on that trip on Royal, Princess, or Celebrity and might have some feedback on which might be more wheelchair accessible? I noticed that Royal has more wheelchair accessible cabins in various cabin types, including a mini-suite. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Royal - Radiance of the Seas

Princess - Diamond

Celebrity - Mercury

Thanks! :)

I can only tell you that Celebrity was great to work with for having someone in a wheelchair. We had a wheelchair accessible room (only a few per ship - so you have to specify and may need to change your travel date to accomodate.) and the dining staff pay close attention to your needs and put you at a good table to access. The Horizon (gone now) was an older ship and very handicap friendly. The new ones are probably more so. The only issues we had were the housekeeping carts blocking the halls, and selfish people with the elevators. What I would be mindful of is the ports, the rental cars and the airplane. My dad (passed away now) could get out of his wheelchair and take a couple of steps. He had lung cancer - not paralysis. The airline put us at the back of the cabin and he almost didn't make it. I've been much more careful about where our seats are since then. We chose Bermuda because it was a handicap friendly port. How easy will it be for you once you disembark the ship at the islands? Thats what I would find out. Also, if you plan on having a rental car, is it handicap equipped, or - is there adequate storage for the wheelchair in the car after you get in. I know I'm not really answering your question well, but I hope I was at least helpful. :o

we went to hawaii 14 days from san diego on infinity and it was very wheelchair accessible.

my mother was in a wheelchair,

the only thing that was tricky was tendering , so she didnt get off on the tender ports, they are there to help you , but like in maui it was windy and it was hard for me to get on the tender, alot of people were scared,

but the workers were great,, the casino had room for wheelchairs, the dining staff everyone was great with my mom,

getting her on the ship was a breeze, there was someone there and they pushed her all the way into her room, it was a great trip

take care

Melissa

We booked a few weeks ago on an April 2008 Princess sailing out of LA to Hawaii. Even at that time, there were few accessible balcony cabins available. So, as usual, if you need an accessible cabin, plan on booking well in advance.
