Passports are not required if you're a US citizen (see below).

We're cruising on the Dream in October and decided to go ahead and get passports. Seems like the passport is more convenient to carry that the "certified" birth certificate, plus we're planning on taking a few more cruises in the next few years.

It was also suggested in another link that having a passport might be helpful if you were detained for whatever reason or got sick in a foreign port and missed the ship's departure. In these "emergency" situations, the passport might help in getting back home sooner.

According to the NCL site:

Entry Requirements for U.S. Citizens Returning to the United States from Canada, Mexico, Bermuda and the Caribbean:

* Returning U.S. citizens need to show proof of U.S. citizenship AND identity to the Immigration and Naturalization Service officer upon entry.

* Proof of U.S. citizenship such as a valid U.S. passport, an expired U.S. passport, an original or state certified copy of a birth certificate (photocopies are not accepted), a Certificate of Naturalization, a Certificate of Citizenship, or a Report of Birth Abroad of a U.S. citizen.

* Proof of identity such as a valid driver’s license or a U.S. government identification card that includes a photo and physical description (Applies to passengers 16 years of age and older).

Hi Kim

ZLAretired98 is correct - no Passport is required. We did this trip out of Houston in April on the NCL Sea and will be doing it again in 3 weeks - the price is just toooo good - we are taking our adult children with their spouses and our little 2-1/2 year old grandaughter on this one coming up - 4 rooms at a great price - go for it. The 4 ports are great - you should really like Roatan.

Regards
