Diva Onboard Posted May 12, 2004 #1 Share Posted May 12, 2004 I read somewhere that yesterday, sunset in Alaska was at 10:36 PM and that every day there will be a gain of 5 more minutes of day light. We will be sailing July 18. Anyone know how long it will remain light during that time? tinydancer21 Posted May 12, 2004 #3 Share Posted May 12, 2004 June 21st is the longest day of the year, the sun actually only sets for a few minutes so it's basiclly 24 hours of sun, then we start loosing daylight. In July though it's still light all day. I used to work for the Fairbanks Princess Hotel and we had two rooms with skylights, the light bothered one tourist so much she slept in the bathtub! haha I sort of felt bad for her, if your not used to the daylight all the time, it can make sleeping sort of hard. When the military move up here they buy these black window shades for their bedrooms. Diva Onboard Posted May 13, 2004 Author #4 Share Posted May 13, 2004 Thanks for the info. I guess we will be up all hours of the day and night. Glad we took late seating for dinner. hooked-on-travel Posted May 13, 2004 #5 Share Posted May 13, 2004 Sunset gets later the farther north you go. We had late dinner seating on a northbound cruise and it was interesting to watch the amount of daylight at dinner time grow every night. The last night we finished dinner and it was just getting to be sunset.
