Casey2 Posted July 29, 2007 #1 Share Posted July 29, 2007 We have a very short stay in Aruba. Would like to do a short sightseeing tour and be dropped off in town for some shopping. How far is shopping from the port? Is it walking distance?
gadiamondgal Posted July 30, 2007 #2 Share Posted July 30, 2007 I would like to know this, too!
Arubalisa Posted July 30, 2007 #3 Share Posted July 30, 2007 Shopping is one block from the port - just outside of the port's gates. Maps in links below will help clarify the picture for you. Close to dock For some additional info Map of downtown Map of Renaissance Mall and Marketplace http://www.arubabycruise.com/info/shopping1.html
panathrasher Posted August 8, 2007 #4 Share Posted August 8, 2007 My H and I stayed in Aruba last Oct. for a company trip. We got there on a Wed and departed on a Sunday. Not sure what day you arrive, but most everything is closed on weekends and shops close early, like around 6pm. We were at the Marriott Renaissance which is in the heart of downtown Aruba. If you get the chance, the best place to eat (in my opinion) is Driftwood. They have excellent steak and the Mahi Mahi was fantastic. It is about four blocks from the Marriott R. Also, there is a Argentinian Steakhouse which was also fantastic. If you are renting a car I would take it up the coastline near the Marriott R, the beaches up there are clear and there is this old rusting ship not to far from the beach which is great to look at. panathrasher Posted August 8, 2007 #5 Share Posted August 8, 2007 Oh also, there is a butterfly aviary about 15 min drive from the Marriott R, (north I believe) if you are interested the last tour is around 4pm so I would go early, we missed it when we were there. Cassandra Posted August 17, 2007 #6 Share Posted August 17, 2007 The ships dock downtown. You just walk down the pier & you are in the downtown. It's like a 100 yards or something. Lots of good shopping.
