I am looking for a good packing list for Alaska this time of year.

Am I in the right place??

Does anyone know where I can find one that's not too long???

Pack your regular evening cruise wear.

Instead of bathing suits and shorts, long pants and long sleeved shirts. A few sweat shirts and a light weight jacket, like the previous poster said, layer! Take a couple short sleeved shirts and short pants in case you get lucky with the weather. One bathing suit. Speaking of weather, take rain gear, and 2 pair of rubber soled shoes. Hat and gloves for glacier cruising day.

More important to us, a good camera and binoculars. More film or a larger memory card than you think you need. Way more money than you need for a warm weather cruise.

I act as if I've been there before, but this year is our first Alaskan cruise. I'm mostly making this up from what I've read here and my own common sense. I leave most of the "list" stuff at home, I find I never need most of what is on those lists.

Have a great time!

Thanks for the input. I have cruised before, but not to Alaska. I'm getting anxious to start packing, but probably need to do some shopping first.

Thank you both.

One thing to keep in mind to take with you no matter where you're going and that is a power strip.

With only one electrical outlet in the cabin and three items needing to be connected, (alarm clock, laptop, digital camera) I would have been SOL if I hadn't brought mine along.

I would recommend a backpack for ports and excursions to carry items in and have your hands free for binoculars. Ladies if you haven't tried one, ditch the purse or beach sized bag. The weight of what your carrying is better distributed in a back pack and you can also give it to your husband to carry without him worring that it doesn't match his shoes.

I usually overpack. I never needed my heavy coat, and it was a pain to lug around. A sweater under a light rainproof jacked was fine even for glacier viewing in the front of the ship. For dinners, take the LBD or solid skirt and mix up the tops if you want to save some packing.

If you have children, walkie-talkies are very handy, with extra batteries. Bring extra batteries for anything that needs them, because they're expensive on the ships.

We found the post-it note suggestion very handy for each other (if one was sleeping and one ran off) and for the cabin steward.

I liked my battery-powered alarm clock with light. There are no clocks in the cabin, and the only outlet was in the bathroom.

There are shops on board and shops in every port, so if you forget to pack something, it's easily replaced.

Easily replaced of course at 3x the cost.

For less than $10 you can pick up a battery powered alarm clock. Leave your laptop at home and charge your camera at night, while you are sleeping. There, now you can leave the extension cords and power outlets at home. Take decent luggage, check your clothing to see if it is in good repair, now you can leave the duct tape at home.

Cut your hair, fingernails and toenails, wax brows, etc... and leave all that paraphernalia at home. Put up with the coffee onboard, buy your souvenir thermal mug onboard and leave all that stuff at home. I used to take post it notes, highlighter pens, stamps, all kinds of stuff "we may need". Guess what? We never needed it. We now take the bare essentials and are very happy not to have all the clutter along. We find we are too busy and vacation time is too precious to spend organizing a bunch of junk. Use your backpack as your carry on, unpack it when you board, then you have your daypack ready without having to pack an extra bag. Clean out your wallet or purse, take only the essentials. Take only reading material you can leave behind on the plane or on the ship (magazines, paperbacks).

On our Alaska cruise this year, we are not going to take enough clothing for the week. There are 4 of us (2 almost grown kids) and it is just too much to haul around, not to mention how to store it in our cabin. We will bite the bullet and have our stuff laundered by the ship to cut back on quantity.

During the cruise, if we do any shopping, we try to have the stuff shipped back home. The cost is usually minimal and it's great not to have to carry extra stuff. On our flight home, we check almost everything so we have less to carry onboard the plane, it's a whole lot easier on and off. I wish I dared to do that on the outbound flight, I'm just a little worried my toiletries will spill out.

For me, the most important item to take is my most comfortable walking shoes, that means the old ones.

Whatever you "lug" in your luggage, have a great cruise!
