Question about Private Tours/Livorno Port

Hello-

Anyone who can help with this question....I sure would appreciate it...

We are going to be in Livorno, Italy Monday, Oct 22nd.

I have looked at private tours to Lucca, Italy...The cost is $$$$.

I was wondering if anyone has rented a car and drove it to this location and back to the port in one day...Is it an easy drive? Who can comment on this?

I also thought about renting a car...and a student as a travel guide...It would still be less expensive than one of this private tour on line....

Anyone who has information....I would appreciate it...
