Calling home to Canada from Nassau ?s

I know that my cell phones aren't going to work in the Bahamas, so I was told by Bell Banada that my Calling Card will work at $1.41 CDN/min and $2.99 surchage per call. Do Calling Cards work for sure? Will it be better for us to buy a Bahamas phone card to call home to Canada?
