COASTERBOB Posted April 14, 2004 #1 Share Posted April 14, 2004 We are HUGE Phila. Eagles football fans and just found out they will open their season on 9/12 with a 4:15PM (Eastern time) game. We depart our ship (POA) that morning in Honolulu. Can you tell us any places (near the port) that would be showing NFL football games that day (sports bars etc)? And what time in Hawaii is 4:15PM (Eastern)? Thanks! Bob
bug_dan Posted April 14, 2004 #2 Share Posted April 14, 2004 There is a 6 hour difference between the East Coast and Hawaii. Eastern Dayligh Savings Time of 4:15 pm equates to 10:15 am in Hawaii. Hawaii does not use daylight savings time. It's possible some of the bars at Aloha Tower may carry NFL games or it may be available on the ship Just a guess but I think they would be more inclined to air games involving west coast teams Dan Infinity Panama Canal 10/17/2004

We were hoping there might be satelitte coverage (NFL Ticket) out there. We should be off the ship around game time, so we'll look for somplace to watch our Eagles! spleen93 Posted April 15, 2004 #4 Share Posted April 15, 2004 At 10:15 am, not sure of any bars that would be open. Nevertheless, assuming it's open, Gordon Birsch may be showing the game at the bar. Other possibilities (I'm thinking of places at Aloha Tower to minimize travel) may be Kapono's or Don Ho's ... (wouldn't recommend the food at Don Ho's though) Are you doing a post-cruise stay in Honolulu? Might be easier to find a place in Waikiki. COASTERBOB Posted April 15, 2004 Author #5 Share Posted April 15, 2004 ...thanks Spleen. No, we are staying pre-cruise for 3 days but will be flying East late that day (Sunday). We don't need a bar, but figured that might be where we could watch it. Bob
bug_dan Posted April 15, 2004 #6 Share Posted April 15, 2004 There is a Hooters at Aloha Tower. Since I was only allowed in one long enough for my wife to tell me we were leaving, I don't know what they may have on the TV Dan Infinity Panama Canal 10/17/2004
spleen93 Posted April 16, 2004 #7 Share Posted April 16, 2004 That's another possibility ... with potential, "ahem", fringe benefits. COASTERBOB Posted April 16, 2004 Author #8 Share Posted April 16, 2004 spleen: how about "Players Sports and Entertainment Club, or All Star Hawaii? How far are these from the port? Thanks Bob
spleen93 Posted April 16, 2004 #9 Share Posted April 16, 2004 All Star (website)is FAR ... it's in Waikiki (entrance to Waikiki specifically). It might be your best bet to catch the game if you can get there though. They open at 7:30 am so definitely would be open at game time ... and given the number of TVs in there, would definitely have at least one TV tuned to the game. Not sure what you'd do with your luggage though unless you rented a car and left it in there. Or stored the luggage at Aloha Tower (if available?) and took a taxi? About 20 minutes away by car. Players might be a possibility - if I remember correctly, it's on Alakea Street which would be a good walking distance away from Aloha Tower (like 7-8 blocks) but doable. Hooters might still be your best bet for a bar/grill that might have the game on and close by though I don't know if they open that early as well. Another possibility is Murphy's Bar & Grill (website)- it's located about 5 blocks ewa (west) of Aloha Tower. They're known for the gaelic steak (never had it yet so can't personally give a thumbs up). But it appears that they only open from 11:30 ... might be a little late.
