Cash or credit for Emeralds

We have tour booked with L. Miles and in the info it says to bing a check with you to get the cash price,has anyone does this and it is safe? What do you really save cash/check vs credit card? Not wanting to buy anything big but would like something!

Cash or cash equivalent (check or travelers' checks) generally gets you the best discounts. And credit card companies are now charging 2-3% extra for transactions that involve foreign currency exchange.

I bought some emerald earrings from Mr. Emerald and used a personal check. I saved 10% by doing it this way vs. credit card. As everyone else has said on the boards, I felt no pressure from Lee to buy, but I knew I wanted some earrings and felt very safe buying them from him.
