Tortola - what to do with kids?

Will be in Tortola for a day on an upcoming cruise and we have been to the baths already and while neat, we aren't up for the hassle of ferry-cab-long walk down-long walk back up-cab-ferry.

 

We have two boys, 5 and 10 years old, and are looking for a good beach to visit for 1/2 the day, maybe have lunch. Good snorkeling would be a plus, but not essential.

 

Renting a car is reasonable to us (have driven on left many times) or a cab would be fine too.

 

What do you recommend and why?

I am hearing great things about Brewers Bay (less crowded beach with snorkeling). $6pp taxi each way. We'll be there in 2 weeks and I'll report back.

Yes, most of my reading seems to indicate Cane Garden Bay or Brewer's Bay are the best choices. With CGB having more facilities, but Brewer's Bay being less crowded and having decent snorkeling.

which one is closer to the pier?

Brewers is a little further away, but still $6 pp by taxi each way to either.

You won't want to even consider walking it (although I heard it could be done if you are in really good shape and are conditioned to mountain hikes).
