1st DSLR. Just bought a Sony a700 :)

Recommended Posts

I broke down and finally bought the camera of my dreams after much research! I got it in the mail a couple of days ago and have been learning about the different modes and all of the functionality.

I was wondering what you find necessary or convenient while cruising accessory or lens wise. My setup is/will be:

Items I've bought:

  • Lowepro Slingshot 200 AW bag
  • Op/tech Pro loop strap
  • Sony small bag (LCS-AMA/B ) to be able to use w/my North Face Surge/laptop backpack for more space if needed.
  • Hoya Pro 1 Digital Multi coated UV filters for lenses
  • Hoya Pro 1 Digital Multi coated Circular Polarizing filters for lenses
  • Hoya Blue intensifier filter for 1 lens
  • 1/4 bolt, twine, and washer (for cheap stabilization when w/o tripod.
  • Nikon lenspen
  • Giottos cleaning kit
  • Minolta 50 f/1.7 lens
  • Minolta 28 f/2.8 wide angle lens
  • Minolta 70-210 f/4 "beercan" lens
  • Dietz Infra Super Wide Macro .42x lens (came w/lenses above on ebay along w/leather lens cases)
  • Sandisk Extreme IV 4gb memory card
  • 2 MS Duo Pro High Speed 2gb cards (From my Sony DCS-T9)
  • Subscription to Outdoor Photographer
  • "Sony a700 Made Easy DVD" (2 disc set)

Items on the to buy list:

[*]Extra Battery

  • Tamron 17-50 f/2.8 (probably next month)
  • Velbon Ultra Maxi SF tripod (before August 10th cruise)

  • Velbon quick release adapter for tripod
  • Sony 50mm f/1.4 (not sure about this yet as I'm still testing out the Minolta 50mm f/1.7)
  • Flash (not sure which model as I still need to do research...possibly Sigma 500, 530, or maybe Sony F36...I'd rather not spend over $200 for this)

So what am I missing? Any advice would be much appreciated. I've been a lurker in this thread for a while only having posted in other topics within Cruise Critic and have already learned that many of you love to share valuable knowledge. :)
