Venice for a day?

Recommended Posts

Looking for ideas on what to do in Venice this July when we disembark around 9:00 am until our flight at 5:00 pm. There is a short tour to Padua offered by the cruise line but that would get us to the airport around noon which is way too early; don't want to waste valuable sightseeing time in an airport!

Can our luggage be "shipped" and safely secured at the airport until we get there around 2:30 - 3:00?

Many thanks for any comments/ideas in advance.

We have almost exactly the same problem only later in the year, and we will already have spent time at the major attractions in Venice during an earlier part of our b/b cruise. Based on other CCr's recommendations, our plan is as follows:

Take the ship’s free shuttle to the Piazzale Roma transportation center where there is luggage storage at the Left Luggage facility, which is reported to be very convenient with a charge of 4E per bag, open from 8 AM to 8 PM. With your back to the canal look across the bus parking lot. There is a huge white transportation building. The storage place is on the left hand side of that building.

Check the to/from schedules, then take the Alilaguna private water bus, the public water bus/vaporetto, or a water taxi from Piazzale Roma to the island of Murano, walk around the area, eat lunch, visit some glass factories, etc. Keep track of the time, then take water transportation back to Piazzale Roma, pick up luggage and take the bus or taxi from Piazzale Roma to the airport in time to be there at least an hour and a half before our flight.

Thank you both.

I forgot to mention that we will have spent the previous day in Venice. NAJNLA, appreciate the info on luggage storage; that sounds like a plan.

FYI: Another option that we considered was to take the bus or a taxi directly from the ship or Piazzale Roma transportation center to the Marco Polo airport and store our luggage at the "Left Luggage Storage" area in the airport arrivals area (open from 5 AM to 9 PM, charge is 4.5 Euros per bag for 24 hours). Then since the Marco Polo Airport is right on the water, and it's a short walk from the airport terminal to the dock, take take the Alilaguna private water bus from the airport to Murano, look around for a few hours, and then take the take the Alilaguna private water bus back to the airport in time for our flight.
