Beachgator Posted March 31, 2008 #1 Share Posted March 31, 2008 Is it typical that you don't have any opportunity to get off the ship while in Canal/Lakes? We're on a sailing with Celebrity which doesn't provide for stops or tenders in the canal whereas other cruise lines appear to.
Richard in Panama Posted March 31, 2008 #2 Share Posted March 31, 2008 In a nutshell there are generally two types of Canal cruises. The roundtrip, mostly Fort Lauderdale, trips go through the first set of locks into Gatun Lake and disembark guests for Panama shore excursions, and then those guests are picked up in Colon after the ship makes it's way back through Gatun Locks. Most of the transcanal, generally repositioning cruises, just barrel through the Canal without providing the opportunity to get off and see Panama. There are some exceptions. I've posted this and answers to other Canal questions at http://richarddetrich.wordpress.com/category/canal-cruise/ It really depends on what you want . . . ideally you'd take both!!
