Pier in Labadee?

Recommended Posts

That is excellent NEWS for Haiti I hope the roads are set up and more tours are available. I know there are some great sites in the area that could be a real draw and add addtional support for the locals.

I don't think the pier will dictate whether these outside excursions are allowed unfortunately. The reason from my understanding for not having them at the moment is safety, not ease of transportation. I would love to see them allowed int he future however because that would mean that the situation in Haiti would have improved enough to allow this.

I got that info from reading the articale. It was talking about tours of the cidital if/when transportation is improved.

That's an interesting article and idea, but IMHO, Haiti is a long way off from being able to do that.

Check out my cruise map of Labadee. If you zoom out 5 clicks (using the scale on the left side of the map), then drag the map north a little bit, you can see how far the Citadel is from Labadee. Unless the political and security situation in Haiti improves on a massive scale, there is no way I would go on that excursion. It would be far too easy to be ambushed and robbed (or worse) anywhere along that trek through the jungle.

Maybe I'm paranoid... but these poor folks (both literally and figuratively) are quite desperate. Some of them have no alternative but to literally eat dirt.

I am certian that before any tours would be undertaken RCCL would ensure traveller safty. The articale also made mention of other needs such as suitable police force. You must keep in mind this is all a few years away. The whole point is that it is a opportunity for Haiti and RCCL.
