Florida Beach Advice

Hi everyone! My family is going on a cruise in August but we are going to come to Florida 2 days early. I'm going crazy searching the boards for some answers but haven't found all of them. I'm sorry if my questions are redundant!

 

We are flying into Ft. Lauderdale but sailing out of Miami. We would like to stay on the beach somewhere but we are not sure where! :o I know there are miles of beaches between Lauderdale and Miami and I'm not sure where to go (or where not to go!). Can someone give me some advice about a good area for my family (kids are 9 and 12)? We will be relying on taxis/shuttles for our transportation.

I would look at the Hollywood Beach area.

Thanks. Do you or anyone else have any suggestions on a nice yet inexpensive place to stay in Hollywood? Should we rent a car for the 2 days?

I like Sunny Isles in the N. Miami area, just south of Hollywood.
