cruisinnorth Posted July 17, 2008 #1 Share Posted July 17, 2008 We are going to be on St. Kitts in February. I would assume a person can use a U.S. credit card. How do the credit card companies handle the exchange rate? Or, are the transactions handled in U.S funds? Thanks for any help. Dave
paul58 Posted July 18, 2008 #2 Share Posted July 18, 2008 US credit cards are accepted at many places. Transactions are in US dollars or EC dollars. Your credit card issuer may charge a foreign currency transaction fee in either transaction. Some places of business may write up the charge as US dollars but when it is finally processed it is done in EC dollars. The exchange rate is fixed at about 1 EC dollar equals about .372 US dollars. The most widely accepted cards are Master Card & Visa with American Express less widely accepted.
