Got the new time. Hopefully we'll be semifunctional--we leave Jerusalem for Barcelona at 2:30am. :-( Thanks for the heads up.

Karl

The Star Bar at 2130 hrs (9:30pm for us US folks. :D) works for me...Hopefully Karl and Tony will see the post and meet us there as well.t

Well, people, all I can say is I sure "missed the boat" for friends of Dorothy cruisers....this sailing from the 4th of January is obviously where everyone is!

I was on the Dec 12th sailing of the Jade and myself and one British guy were the only 2 at the F.O.D. meetings all week. By about 5 or 6 days we gave up. We did see one guy stick his head in, turn around, and leave, but that was only once.

With only two of us we felt like "the only gays in the village" on our cruise, but it looks like the Jan 4th cruise has lots of F.O.D, so you guys should have lots of fun.

Sorry to hear the FODs weren't plentiful on your cruise, Jim. You still have a few days left to book. Come go with us! :-)

I've been on cruises like that myself, though. Went on one Aug 2007 where it was me and one other guy (british, also.. how funny). But I was on one in Jan 2007 where there were almost 2 dozen FODs. Guess it's just the luck of the draw, eh?

Regardless, I usually have a great time on a cruise. So come go with us. :-)

Wish I could, it's just this one minor detail of a thing they call a "JOB"....not retired yet. Just zero-ed out the vacation days too! icon9.gif

Hi

I went to the web to get info about the Jade and this was the first site to open. We hail from London and will join the Jade on Jan 4th after 3 days in Barcelona.

Like some of you guys we have been on a fair number of cruises. This time however what with the price of NCL tours coupled with the awful fall in pound versus the euro value (as well as just about every other currency) means that we will be using public transport for our tours.

Jim, We have a town house in Oliva near Gandia and usually visit Jalon for the Rasta market most times we are over. (Don't think I will be able to afford the price of petrol when we are next there in April - SOB!!)

Jade Cruisers - It would be great to meet up with you on Sunday in The Star Bar at 2130 hrs

I am fascinated that Jim says that "the casino had the most ridiculously tightest slots I've ever seen, anywhere". Probably I am too naive to understand the deeper significance of this statement but does it mean that one-arm bandits keep breaking down because coins get stuck in them?

Better dash and finish the packing

Chris (the big one) and Kit (the little one);)

Welcome aboard, Chris and Kit. Looking forward to meeting you with the rest of the folks at the Star at 2130 hrs.

I think Jim was referring to the fact that the slots were not paying out. You put money in and they don't give you anything in return, even after several rounds of playing. Tight slots! They suck.

Jim, I know all about JOB. I have one and hate it. It cuts into my social life so! :D

2 more days and I leave for Barcelona. woohoo

Yes, Scooter was right, I was referring to the payouts. "Tight" slots means cheap-- i.e. they're set to pay off a very low percentage. The Jade had a nice variety of slot machines (it's worth playing the Village People machine-- it's SO gay!) but plan on dumping your money in and having very little chance of winning anything back. If you're a higher stakes gambler, playing Blackjack is better odds.

I'm a cheapskate gambler, usually preferring 5c slot machines. These machines are so tight I scaled back to 2c bets, and even at that I managed to p*ss through $20-40 in about a hour. Losing $20 on 2c bets in less than an hour is sad.

But do play the Village People machine, it's super-queer.

Scooter,

Not sure if it's too late for you already, and/or if you have hotel accommodations in Barcelona. But if you don't already know, the (gay)Axel Hotel in Barcelona is really nice, very reasonable (except for the breakfast, which is outrageous). I stayed there and loved it, albeit only for one night.

Jim,

Thanks for the info on the Axel Hotel. The home page of the website was worth the visit. I love latin guys! ;)

Too bad my friends and I have already booked an apartment for our two night stay in Barcelona. The Axel would have been a good choice.

Sorry you can't join us on the cruise, Jim. It would have been fun.

Later!

Scott

Hi Chris & Kit!

It is me (Kevin) who lives in Jalon and not Jim. I am in fact in Southampton at present with a friend and my parents.

Sissy Daz and I fly to Barcelona on Friday for 2 nights ahead of the cruise staying in the Confortel, all part of the NCL package. Normally I use Euros but as everything on the ship is paid for in dollars and my credit card is a UK one I know what you mean about having to tighten the belt with regard to tours but we are as I write choosing which NCL excursions to do.

I do not know Oliva well but I drive through it often on the N332 on my way to the gay cruising beach just outside Gandia. Many a pleasant experience there this winter jajajajaja. Do not worry too much about paying the petrol prices with the pound being so week, the Spanish petrol prices have dropped quite a bit recently so should compensate.

Look forward to meeting you in the Star Bar at 2130hrs Sunday night unless there is already a FOD meeting scheduled for that night.

Kevin

PS. I hope there are a few tight slots on this cruise!;):o

For those of you about to leave your homes to fly to Europe and join this cruise in Barcelona, here are a couple of links to weather forecasts for Spain and the Med. This first one is the Spanish government weather site which shows everything from lightning strikes to rainfall during the previous 24 hours updated every 30 minutes together with forecasts for the next five days. Do not worry that it is in Spanish because most of the important words are spelt similar to what they are in English.

http://www.aemet.es/es/eltiempo/observacion/radar

The next two links are for the BBC weather site showing the pressure charts for the following five days for the Western and Eastern Med.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/weather/world/w...pressure.shtml

http://www.bbc.co.uk/weather/world/e...pressure.shtml

There is even space for you to write in the name of the ports we are visiting to get a five day forecast.

I am looking forward meeting you all Sunday night

Besos

Kevin

Hi this will be my first cruise, and while my parents will be with for the 12 day, I decided to add on the 9 day Canary island leg.

Happy to see other friends of Dorothy on board, I thought it might just be retirees :)

I will be with my mother (not adding on the 9day trip like you though).

We're leaving tonight and should be in Barcelona tomorrow (fingers crossed no delays). Maybe we will see you at the get together at 930....

Hey, Ross...

Welcome aboard, Ross.

I'm not retired yet, but wish I could afford to be.

I'm in Barcelona now and will be boarding the ship tomorrow. Looking forward to meeting you all at the Star Bar at 9:30 tomorrow night.

  • 2 weeks later...

What a fantastic cruise this was! And thanks to all the guys (and Nancy)who joined me every night of the cruise in the Star Bar and for dinner afterwards. Of all the cruises I have done, this is the one that had the most Friends of Dorothy willng to meet up and many friendships were made. With a bit of luck we will remain in contact and our paths will cross again in the future.

For all the other Friends of Dorothy doing the Eastern Med cruise on the Norwegian Jade in the future, I hope your experiences are as good as mine have been.

Besos

Kevin
