Mr. Barbados - Restaurant Questions

Mr. Barbados,

Have been following this board for a while as we will be in Barbados on Sunday, 11-21. Appreciate all your information. We spent a week in Barbados for an anniversary in 1995, and stayed at the Crystal Cove. Is it possible to use their beach and facilities if you don't stay there?

We remember having two great dinners at two beautiful/romantic locations. One was Carambola and one was The Cliff House, but we can't remember which was which. Seems like one was almost next door to the Crystal Cove, and that both were up on a cliff overlooking the sea. The one that we especially remember seems like it had a single row of tables on a large U shaped outdoor dining area with all tables overlooking the cliff and the sea. Does this sound like The Cliff House? We just found out today that our departure time from Barbados has been changed till 11 p.m., and we might like to try to go back to one of those places. How do they compare and what are the approximate prices these days? Are they both open on Sunday, and would we need to reserve in advance? Thanks for any assistance.

I strongly believe that you will be unable to secure a day-pass at the Crystal. Being a past guest might help, but don’t count on it.

Call their agent, Island Inns, toll free at 877-364-1100 or e-mail info@islandinns.com and ask.

Now, the restaurant closest to Crystal Cove is Carambola, however The Cliff isn’t too far south of there.

Well, your dilemma of which spot to dine on a Sunday has been eased, as Carambola isn’t open on Sundays. Sorry.

We just love The Cliff. It is our favorite place. However, Carambola is also just as wonderful in many ways and perhaps more romantic. We just love Paul’s cooking--it is absolutely outstanding. That is our main draw to The Cliff.

At The Cliff, with a full-bore dinner, appetizers, wine and a drink before dinner, expect to pay US$100/pp. Obviously, you can do it cheaper, but US$50/pp is about the bottom of the scale.

Please do advance reservations. The place gets real busy and without them you have a good chance of being turned away (or waiting a long time).

Contact Dan Jelensek, manager, at: thecliff@sunbeach.net and inquire about your 11/21/04 date.

Please ask if you have any more questions, that’s what I’m here for.

Best wishes for a wonderful time on the island! :)
