scraphappy1970 Posted January 19, 2009 #1 Share Posted January 19, 2009 My parents are going as well as my four kids. We were wondering if there was a beach area close by, that was inexpensive and little travel. I will have a 2 year old in the group, so safety in travel without a carseat is a concern. kingfish78734 Posted January 19, 2009 #2 Share Posted January 19, 2009 The beach is free and lined with some great restaurants. Food and drink are very inexpensive. You will take a free shuttle at the ship end of the pier into Progreso. From where the free shuttle bus drops you off at the open air market, walk to the end of the block, turn left and it's just two blocks to the beach...an easy walk. Also, when you get off the bus at the market there are these blue double-decker buses. For just two bucks you will get a tour of the town (very cool!!), including the beach, and this will give you a chance to get your bearings. Lastly, just relax. Progreso is a great town with very friendly and helpful people. Wish we were going with you.

kingfish78734 Posted January 22, 2009 #4 Share Posted January 22, 2009 :) No problem. One other tip: bring small bills if you plan on doing any shopping. Most street vendors will only have change in pesos so...we find it easier to bring about 20 ones and some fives and tens so we can try to give exact amount, otherwise we're stuck with pesos until our next cruise lol. The restaurants take cash or cc's and will usually give you change in USD.
