Port Everglades (FLL) to Deerfield Beach: Transportation options question

Hi;

December, 2009, I need to go from Port Everglades, Fort Lauderdale (arriving on a cruise) to Deerfield Beach, FL. That's without a car or rental. I'll have one large suitcase and a shoulder bag.

Is anyone familiar with reasonable transportation options?

Taxis and limos look costly and I don't know how to arrange a share. Returning to the FLL airport and going out on a shared limo. seems complicated, more money and time-consuming too. The cruise ship shuttles will not usually stop until Palm Beach when heading North.

One suggestion was to get transportation by taxi from the dock to the nearby, Tri-Rail station and take a train up to Deerfield Beach. I don't know how difficult that would be especially with a larger suitcase?

Do you have any knowledge or suggestions for me? Internet searches have not been helpful. Thank you.
