Sharkin Posted November 22, 2004 #1 Share Posted November 22, 2004 Beginning to research an Osaka to Seattle cruise on the Sapphire Princess next April 23 (2005). Does anyone know where the terminal is in Osaka? How about shuttle services?
Philip217 Posted December 14, 2004 #2 Share Posted December 14, 2004 The Osaka Cruise Terminal is in the north center of the harbor, next to the Osaka Aquarium. The Aquarium ias definitely worth a visit if you have the time. Transportation, like everywhere in Japan, is excellent. There is a subway stop one or two blocks away. From there, you can get anywhere very quickly.
Sharkin Posted December 29, 2004 Author #3 Share Posted December 29, 2004 Thanks for the reply!! Did you use a taxi at all? I am wondering about from hotel to terminal. Not too keen on lugging our luggage onto and off of a train or bus.
Philip217 Posted December 30, 2004 #4 Share Posted December 30, 2004 Take a taxi. Japanese taxis are the best in the world.
Buddyr20 Posted April 10, 2009 #5 Share Posted April 10, 2009 Take a taxi. Japanese taxis are the best in the world. The Japanese taxis may be the best in the world today but, when I was stationed in Japan with the US Navy in the mid 1950's , the only thing Japanese taxi drives knew about driving was floorboarding the gas peddle and honking the horn. If you did not get out of thei way they would run over you. Sure hope things have changed.
Philip217 Posted April 10, 2009 #6 Share Posted April 10, 2009 In 1950, Japan was just beginning to recover from the USA trying (and nearly succeeding) to Nuke them back to the stone age. You would be quite amazed at what has happened in Japan over the past 60 years. And if you were to ride in a Japanese Taxi today, you would want to know why it can't be done nearly as well in America.
Dushi Posted April 12, 2009 #7 Share Posted April 12, 2009 Taxis are plentiful, but very expensive. We took the subways in Osaka . The Chuo line is a five minute walk from the Aquarium but I do not know how far away the dock area is from the aquarium so if lugging your bags around is a concern, then take a cab. Many of the subway stations do not have escalators/elevators so moving around with large bags can be a challenge. Just remember that they drive on the left and that there is no need for passengers/customers to open the taxi door. The driver has a device that opens the doors on the rear left hand side of the vehicle. The original post was dated in 2004???
