Open Seating on Carnival Miracle

I just read that they are starting to have Open Seating on the Carnival Miracle beginning in March. I am travelling in May with my family and was considering this option. I have sailed Freestyle on NCL and didn't mind it, but the ship was geared for freestyle. Would the wait times be incredible? Or do they limit the number of guests participating? Also, are you allowed to sit as a family or do they seat you with other guests?
