Driving From POM to FLL

Anyone got some ideas on where to go/ what to see when driving from the Port of Miami to the Fort Lauderdale Airport when you have a few hours? Beaches and / or shopping mall suggestions? And Places and roads to avoid?

We did this last year because our flight did not leave until 7:30 pm after debarkation. We rented a car and drove A1A to Fort Lauderdale. Very pretty ride along the water. We went to a mall in Fort Lauderdale. The time flew and it was a beautiful relaxing day.
