ruth1964 Posted April 15, 2009 #1 Share Posted April 15, 2009 Just wanted to give a warning to travellers, who are bringing their children [minors] with differing surnames. I am divorced and have reverted to my maiden name. My daughter has her fathers surname. We have travelled out of Miami TWICE when she was a teenager and never been challenged. Travelling out of Bayonne, my daughter is 17 with her own passport, we were denied boarding due to different surnames. I had to contact UK to sort out copy FULL birth certificate which shows my former married name and confirmed by maiden name. RCCL t&C's 'unless you are a parent or guardian, you need ID for a minor'. no small print asking for clarification if different surnames. Obviously this would not be an issue had she been travelling with her father. Just wanted to let others, especially if you have never been challenged before, to bring your birth certificate for your child. the stress is not worth it!! ruth PS other than that the holiday is fine and Explorer is making good time no obvious issues with the propellor, other than perhaps some extra vibration in the aft when manouvering into port. scgirlatheart Posted April 15, 2009 #2 Share Posted April 15, 2009 My children also have a different last name than me, and when I travel out of the country in addition to their passports I carry their birth certificates and a copy of the custody agreement since I have sole custody. I've never been asked to produce any documentation, but better safe than sorry.
