Funny self assist debarkation passenger

We chose self assist on our cruise- it went smoothly but one passenger had me shaking my head. The clear elevators were not working and the other elevators were stopping at every floor. The area by the elevators was full of people. One couple was standing right next to an elevator and she was telling everyone who came off they needed to wait on the line. SHe said she needs to get to work and she came down at 7:15 so she will be off the boat first. More and more people come down and she inches closer to the elevator door and tells people to stop blocking the elevator area. Now I get clausterphobic and it was getting more and more packed but thankfully I was fine. I was wondering how all these people would get down to deck 2 in an elevator. I didnt have to worry cause we all took the stairs. I was struggling with my luggage down the stairs but made it down. The area from the elevators was roped off and we had to walk a circle around the casino to debark. Me and Dh did not see "first off the boat" anywhere and I wonder of she got on the first elevator down.

BTW Self assisit was great- we breezed by customs and were out of the terminal very quickly.

Can you tell me a little more how that works, as opposed to having the cruise line take your luggage? I realize it means you carry your own luggage off the ship, but I'd like to know why it's faster and if anything else is different

If you leave your luggage out the last night... it will be taken and placed in the terminal for you to retrieve (along with about 2000 other pieces of luggage to search thru !)..... but it is very organized.

Incredible to put oneself through that cattle call when one can sit on the Lido and drink coffee, juice, and people watch until they kick us off the boat. Then the elevators are empty, no crowding, and the luggage warehouse is populated only by porters wanting to get your bags for you.

Customs is bored and wanting to go on break, no need to even break stride. But then we drive or schedule late flights.

I have never had to search through more than 75 or so pieces of luggage. They are divided into numbered zones, so just look for your number.

You are correct...as it is done in zones and I did not clarify that  but when fist seeing all the luggage it can be overwhelming !

No way would I ever get in with that type of crowding...not my idea of how to end a wonderful week on a ship.

I find a comfortable chair somewhere....usually a shady spot on Lido Deck all the way aft, get out my book and read, enjoy the sunshine, the quiet.... Then, when they announce last call, I pick up my carryon, take the elevator down, walk off and pick up my suitcase which is usually by itself at this point.
