Intercontinental Hotel and Transportion Questions

We have visited Old SJ as a port in the past. Next Feb. we will be on the AOS out of SJ...our first B2B cruise. Flying in the day before. We were going to have the cruiseline book the flights and hotel but were able to book direct flights with our T.A. The cruiseline was having us stay at the Hotel EL Convento in Old S.J. but now we are booked at the Intercontinental. We have never been to that part of San Juan. So I am lost. Besides the beach is there shopping etc around the hotel or do we go to Old SJ? Wondering about cab fares/distance from the airport, to the Pan Am Pier and to Old SJ. Wondering if anyone has stayed recently at this hotel? And the end of our first week we will have a day to explore SJ. before the ship sails again. Any suggestions of what to do that day? We have seen the fort and walked around Old SJ.

Thank you in advance.

Anna:)
