bluepage Posted December 27, 2004 #1 Share Posted December 27, 2004 We came to Progreso on Carnival's M/S Holiday from its new homeport of Mobile and had a most enjoyable time. Grandparents took the Carnival's offering of a 4.5 hour tour of Merida which they found most interesting and enjoyable. The four grandchildren (ages 10, 8, 3 & 3) and their parents took the free shuttle into Progreso and after finding the shopping to be interesting and prices fair, spent a fine time at the beach. The Cruise Terminal at Progreso has several shops. We found their selection and prices to be comparable to those in town. The free shuttle which runs every 15 minutes is a definite Plus. One could spend the morning on the beach, eat lunch on the ship, and come back to Progreso and shop or even revisit the beach. The shuttle takes you to a square that features an open-air market for tourists. There you can find a double decker bus that will take you on a 20 minute narrated tour of Progreso for $2.00 per person. Definitely recomended, although it shows you the nice as well as the not so nice parts of Progreso. All in all a nice port stop.
santanesia Posted December 27, 2004 #2 Share Posted December 27, 2004 We too enjoy Progreso/Merida port. We rented a car and did Merida, the Dizi... ruins with the cenote and had a Great Fried Fish( they show you the fish and ask with one to cook) and cold bears before heading back to ship. We drove around a bit and would like to get back for a little more time. Maria
