Cranberry Island Bar Harbor

The tour is wait listed on our cruise, but I see there is a ferry service that runs 6 times a day. First is it worth the time to go and second would we have enough time to sight see while we are there. Our cruise ship on princess arrives at 7 and leaves at 6 pm. And last is the ferry service close tho where the tenders drop you off in Bar Harbor.

Wanted to see something different second time around.

I agree that this would be something different and interesting; but the problem I see is that the Cranberry Isles ferries ( http://www.cranberryisles.com/ferries.html ) do not leave from Bar Harbor but Southwest Harbor or Northeast Harbor. You will need transportation to either and return to BH. If you’ll be visiting BH before Columbus Day, the free seasonal island bus service (Island Explorer http://www.exploreacadia.com/ ) is available. The bus routes are #5, #6 (NEH) or #7 (SWH); NEH is closer to BH. For the IE schedules, please note that bus #6 does not operate after 8/31 and #7 has a reduced schedule after 8/31 :(.

You will just have to coordinate the IE bus schedule with the ferry schedule.

Good luck & enjoy your cruise.

Yes We'll want be there til 10/13 so guess we will be out of luck unless wait list opens up. One more question How about the National Park boat tours do they still operate during that time and where do they leave from . Thanks again

Are you referring to the Lighthouse and Park Tour offered by BAR HARBOR WHALE WATCH CO.? According to the their schedule at http://www.barharborwhales.com/rates-schedules.php the tour runs to 10/31. The tour is 2H 45M long and starts at 1:30PM. Will you have enough time to make the last tender?

One good thing about this tour is that it starts and ends at the town (tender) dock.

The dock that the ships use at this time is a privately owned wharf and the individual/company receives so much per person from the ships (the town does not receive the money) .... well, the town would like to collect on revenue from cruise passengers and where the tenders come into town may be changed from the location they are at now. Most likely it will change to the large dock that is to the right of the private wharf (assuming one is looking at the wharf from the street side). We will see what happens from the bru-haha that is going on now.

Always something exciting going on!!! Jan

If you have read the description of the tour at the link I provided in post #4, you’ll: ……visit five offshore island lighthouses. ……………will have an opportunity to see some of Acadia National Park's most scenic highlights (from the ocean side, added by me)….. You will NOT be really seeing the town of Bar Harbor. The only way to see BH is: when you will leave the tender dock, cross West St, and walk uphill on Main St.

Also, You may want to consider seeing BH from its other side by walking the Bar Harbor Shore Path: http://www.acadiamagic.com/ShorePath.html

Since you arrive at BH at 7:00AM, you may want to consider doing a tour of Acadia National Park. There are 2 independent tour companies that provide them.

Oli’s Trolley - http://www.acadiaislandtours.com/

Acadia National Park Tours - http://www.acadiatours.com/

If you can do the 2H 30M tour (long tour offered by each), I would suggest it. The tours start at 10:00AM and pickup is a short walk from the tender dock. Doing a long tour does not offer much time for lunch and there are no fast food franchises in BH, IIRC.
