Boston - Getting to town

We are in Boston on a Saturday on Holland America.

Does anyone know if there is any type of shuttle from the cruise ship pier and if so where it heads to.

Where do you want to go in Boston?

Cruisers seem to do the following:

1) shuttle to Faneuil Hall/Quincy Market through the ship (About $12??)

2) Public transportation - $2/pp - Silver Line from Black Falcon to the Red line at South Station. The Red Line goes to Park St (start of the Freedom Trail) and connects to the green or orange lines to go elsewhere in Boston

3) Old Town Trolley - there is a stop at Black Falcon that takes you to Faneuil Hall to connect up with the main trolley route around the city.

Folks have reported picking up shuttles to Faneuil Hall for $5 outside the terminal, but other have said that these are "gypsy" shuttles. I simply don't know.

Not sure yet where we want to go. We have been to Boston on land vacations twice before. This time we would probably just head to Quincy Market.

Are you beginning a cruise, ending a cruise or here on a port-of-call?

According to the Massport website (http://www.massport.com/ports/pdf/Schedule_10.pdf), Holland America only uses Boston for embarkation/debarkation. This is important because the trolley option would not be available if it is not a port-of-call.

Good point. Usually folks mention they are embarking or disembarking. General questions come from folks in port for the day.

Also, folks who are embarking or disembarking have luggage, which is usually the big issue.
