momtoabowhead Posted January 9, 2012 #1 Share Posted January 9, 2012 Title says it all. What is the difference? The cove is cheaper, is it a smaller room? Smaller balcony? Thoughts? Thank you!!
Rare Timmys_mom Posted January 9, 2012 #2 Share Posted January 9, 2012 Title says it all. What is the difference? The cove is cheaper, is it a smaller room? Smaller balcony? Thoughts? Thank you!! Just had a conversation with my PVP about cove balconies. He said the rooms are laid out differently. The balconies are larger. If the seas get rough, they will lower a steel covering in place and your balcony suddenly becomes a very expensive inside cabin. I am contemplating a cove balcony for our Med cruise, but haven't made up my mind yet.

I am contemplating a cove balcony for our Med cruise, but haven't made up my mind yet. I read a thread earlier that referenced a website to use that shows the exact ship layout and helps in choosing a room without noisy venues above or below you. Any idea what that website might be? I want to make sure I book a good room and don't end up above the engines or below the disco. LOL.

Something about the Casino noise? Im so clueless.
love2cruise56 Posted February 12, 2012 #6 Share Posted February 12, 2012 I saw a few pictures of the balcony cabins on the Carnival Dream and they look small more of a narrow rectangle. Has anyone have information on this?
1948buddy Posted February 12, 2012 #7 Share Posted February 12, 2012 The cove balconies are under the lifeboats, and do not get a huge amt of sun. There are some like ours , 2288, that do not have a lifeboat above. They are close to the water, and some may stay a little damp, but the balcony is very private, and we enjoyed ours. I do not see a difference in cabin size.

HHHHHEEEEELLLLLLLLLLOOOOO momtoabowhead: A cove balcony is a balcony stateroom that is close to the water. When the water gets rough they close it in and you will have an expensive inside stateroom. Don't know if the cost is worth it. The size I think is the same. Just the location of it is different. You are on the water line. My wife and I prefer a balcony room that is more above the water. JustCruisin' Posted February 12, 2012 #10 Share Posted February 12, 2012 If they close the steel door you sill have a window that remains unobstructed. The steel door is not closed that often and it wouldn't be for the whole cruise.
NeuroQueen Posted February 12, 2012 #11 Share Posted February 12, 2012 We went on the Dream over Thanksgiving just to try a Cove Balcony. I wanted to experience being that close to the water. Well, I loved it. It is about 35-40 ft above the water (estimate, as i did not have a tape measure)! It does feel a bit more closed in, as it is part of the hull of the ship and you do not get much sun. The front of the balcony is steel not plexiglass but the view was just as good. We had very high waves and a rocky sailing but a midship cove on deck two took the waves in stride. It was great fun watching the waves break over the bow. The balcony is reported to be 10sq ft larger than a normal balcony. From all of the research I did before our cruise it seems they close the balcony door very infrequently due to rough seas. Some have reported noise issues from above but we were in 2288 and heard nothing. The promenade on deck five juts out and has several whirlpool tubs. People on deck 6, especially near the tubs lose privacy and views of the sea straight down.. My recommendation is to get a balcony as high as possible to avoid the view of the promenade and the hot tubs. Have a great cruise!
cccer Posted February 12, 2012 #12 Share Posted February 12, 2012 Going on the Magic in July and have a Lido balcony. Looked at the cove balconies, but we really like the Lido deck. Two years ago we had an aft on a lower deck and it was nice, but went back to the Lido.

There are some pictures here: http://www.zydecocruiser.net/CarnivalDream/GrandMed/03SeaDay1/cove2.htm zydecocruiser's webpage has some pictures somewhere of the balcony with the steel door closed, but I couldn't find them. mrsbean1990 Posted February 12, 2012 #14 Share Posted February 12, 2012 We had a cove balcony last month on the Magic, and we loved it. Had a deck 8 balcony on Conquest and loved it. Had an inside cabin on the Fantasy and loved it. I'm pretty sure, I just love cruising. :)
