pokeysgal Posted June 15, 2007 #1 Share Posted June 15, 2007 Hi, there: My friend and I are taking our first Mexican Riviera cruise on the RC Vision of the Seas in October and are very excited. (I've cruised 3 times before, and this will be her first.) I thought I had heard there were ruins outside Puerto Vallarta, but it looks I may have heard wrong. Any tips regarding ruins, digs, or other historical sites of interest near Puerto Vallarta or Mazatlan and if so, any tips on how to get there? If there aren't any digs in those places, what is our best bet for a more authentic cultural experience? TIA, Alisa
gottago2mexico Posted June 16, 2007 #2 Share Posted June 16, 2007 There are no major ruins sites anywhere close to either Puerto Vallarta or Mazatlan. There are a few very minor pre-columbian ruins, but no Aztec pyramids or anything like that. For a more cultural experience: Mazatlan - Try a tour up to Copala or El Quelite. Puerto Vallarta - You can take a tour to visit the Huichol Indians, or a more traditional town like San Sebastian, Las Palmas, Sayulita, or San Blas. Inside the cities, there's not too much cultural going on in the tourist areas, though you can visit museums or see a Mexican Fiesta. Hope this helps, have a great time! ldog Posted June 18, 2007 #4 Share Posted June 18, 2007 I'm looking for something different in PV. How far would it be to the Huichol Indians, San Sebastian, Las Palmas, Sayulita, or San Blas? Can we take a local taxi? There will be up to six of us. thanks
