Bringing Alcohol on Board the Dawn

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I like dessert wines. Love them with a passion. Note I mean

proper dessert wines. Unfortunately the Dawn does not carry

any I like.

I understand I can't bring any alcohol on board.

So what am I to do?

I really only want to bring a bottle or two on,

can anyone suggest ... ahem ... ahem a way

to bring them on board legal or otherwise.

Note, I totally agree that NCL's policy on alcohol

make sense since controlling the supply of liquor will

stop people getting too drunk. But in this case, my

dessert wines wines are part of my holiday and a bottle

or two is not going to get me drunk (proper dessert

wine bottles are only 375mls)

Any other suggestions?

So you declare it when you check in and they

charge you $15 per bottle?

Yes, you'll have to pay the corkage fee of $15 per bottle. But if it's a wine that you really would like to have, I think it would be worth it--better to pay extra to have your special beverage on hand than to have to worry about smuggling, being caught, etc etc. At least it would be for me!:)

Gosh. I wonder what they do if they catch you.

Sounds like they use the no alcohol policy to make a few

bucks rather than a method of controlling rowdy behavior!

They send a notice to your cabin about the luggage that had it inside it. It is in one of the meeting rooms at front of the ship near the pool. You are asked to take it out, and they give you a receipt for the bottles and return them on the morning of your departure. Then they send the suitcase to your room.

Just back from the Spirit. I had a bottle of wine in my carry-on which I knew I would have to pay the $15 corkage fee for. All carry-on is x-rayed and if bottles are detected you are taken aside to pay the fee (if wine) or it is held for you till end of cruise (if liquor). The NCL Freestyle Daily states that the $15 corkage fee is for a liter of wine. So you should only have to pay $15 if you bring 2x375ml of your dessert wine.

We also had 2 dozen cans of Pepsi but were never asked what the cans were. Could have been beer but I guess they aren't cracking down on beer. Yet.
