mary mary quite contrary Posted November 15, 2005 #3 Share Posted November 15, 2005 No, I don't--and I'd like to keep it that way! We're sailing on 11/20, and it looks like T.D. Gamma might be heading our way!
Lyncruiser Posted November 15, 2005 #4 Share Posted November 15, 2005 We've had two cruises affected by hurricanes. Hurricane Floyd in '99 caused us to miss our port call to Coco Cay. We had an a sea day with two-hour open bar instead. No biggie. The only odd thing is we've gone on 9 RCI cruises since then and have never had an itinerary since that one that went to Coco Cay. So, we've never seen it. We love Labadee, but hope to see Coco Cay some day! Our other cruise was a 7-day out of Miami, delayed two days by Hurricane Jeanne. That was last year. All I can say is, it was extremely stressful. It's not so bad when you're on a ship as the ships go around the hurricanes. But, if you're supposed to leave port and it is closed due to a hurricane, and you don't get word that you can reschedule until you're already in the port city, well, it's not fun. I hope never to have to fly directly into the path of a hurricane again. And, we were fortunate. Jeanne hit further up FL's east coast. I understand things were much worse in Miami after Wilma recently. Having seen the devastation of Hurricanes Katrina and Wilma, we're going to think long and hard about ever cruising anywhere in the Atlantic during Hurricane Season again (and the season is 6 months out of every year!). TWELVEOHONE Posted November 15, 2005 #5 Share Posted November 15, 2005 Was on the SOS going from Maimi to Eastern Caribbean. After our fisrt stop at Labadee the captain announced that hit a hurrcaine was on it's way to San Juan and we would not be going their. We alsio did not go to St Thomas, as a mater of fact we did not go to any port originally scheduled except Labadee. We never knew where we were going until the next day. I called it a Mystery Cruise since our ports of call were a mystery. Everyone seem to enjoy the mystery trying to guess each night where would be going the next day. There were 7-couples who had plans to get married in St Thomas (A U.S. port). When we got to Grand caymen the cruise line made arrangements with the authorities to have them all get married on the ship while in port.
cusyl Posted November 15, 2005 #6 Share Posted November 15, 2005 We were handed a letter at embarkation that due to the hurricane the ship would be going to the western Caribbean in lieu of the eastern route. We stayed at the dock overnight in Cozumel and the ship went out to sea that morning and seemed to be doing circle patterns with another ship while we were waiting the extra days for the port in Ft Lauderdale to open. The weather and seas were great and we enjoyed the extra time on the ship. Princess gave everyone free internet and phone so that they could change their flight and transportation arrangements. rascalious Posted November 15, 2005 #7 Share Posted November 15, 2005 We had our Sept 18th Rhapsody cruise extended 3 days due to Hurricane Rita. Definitely alright by us!
Host Caroline Posted November 16, 2005 #8 Share Posted November 16, 2005 We've had 4 cruises 4 years in a row affected by a hurricane.. including a Canada/New England cruise! Last year we got an extra 2 days -- no complaints and we've had our itinerary altered.. this year turned out to be a wonderful cruise with the change! That being said we decided to do a group AFTER hurricane season next year so we will hopefully go where we plan to go and so the Floridians will be home during the season this year in case they need to board up etc. I will cruise during hurricane season again but hoping that we arent' looking at T.S. Gamma next year on Dec. 3:eek: ....
wrp96 Posted November 16, 2005 #9 Share Posted November 16, 2005 Note to self: don't go on any cruise during hurricane season the same week as Host Caroline.
dyanna72 Posted November 16, 2005 #10 Share Posted November 16, 2005 Was on on the 4 day Majesty cruise this past August. Wound up being a 5 day w/extra day at sea due to Port of Miami being closed. The only thing the ship ran out of was Pina Coladas & Caesar Salad. The extra sea day was in calm waters & the lightning storm we watched from top deck out in the oceanoaver Miami was absolutely incredible! Dadofsara Posted November 16, 2005 #11 Share Posted November 16, 2005 We were also on Majesty during Katrina during her early stages. Our 4 night was also extended to 5 nights because the port was closed. The extra day at sea poured. The decks started to take on so much water that it began to leak out of light fixtures and the elevators began taking on water. It was pretty amazing to watch. We arrived back in Miami one day late, we rescheduled our flights of course at a $300 fee. Thank you Song Airlines! The the captain could not fit the ship at the dock and had to turn it around. We missed our rescheduled flights and finally got home much later than planned because we now had to stop in Atlanta and wait 4 hours rather than have a direct flight. All this was nothing compared to what Katrina brought the Gulf region after if left Miami.
