Has anyone stayed at the Amora Jamison Hotel in Sydney? Is it well located? What is in walking distance of the hotel. What restaurants are nearby and good? We are going on a Princess Land/Cruise tour in December.

I stayed there 3 weeks ago...lovely hotel and it has two very nice restaurants...it is right in the centre of the city and has an city circle railway station 100 metres away...close to pretty much everything...you can walk down to Circular Quay, all the main shopping area. Or catch the monorail over to Darling Harbour...the historic Rocks area is only 5 minutes walk.

I have stayed there dozens of times for business. It is highly variable - they have lots of rubbish rooms (moldy curtains and stains on the floor) and a similar number of good rooms; it will be role of the dice in terms of what you get.

The food is terrible too.

The Shangri La is far superior and is often the same price plus the food there is vastly superior.

Anyone stay at this hotel recently? Have read a lot of reviews on this hotel but most reviews aren't current.

We just got in yesterday. Our room is clean. Beds might be a bit soft for some. Storage is lacking. Pool looked nice, haven't been in.

Very quick walk from the train.

We arrived early, had to wait bit for our room to be ready actually took a room on a lower floor. We'd just arrived after two very long flights from the states. The front desk staff was very nice. Held our bags, let us go up to the spa to use the showers and change, and would have called us when our room was ready. I hadn't picked up a local SIM yet. When we came back to use the wifi to activate the SIM there was a room ready. If you have a number that works they'll call when the room is ready.

If you can handle your luggage OPT is walkable from the hotel. We were down in the area several times yesterday. There is a ton of shopping. Still need to locate a grocery.

Food - there are a bunch of options around, but it is so subjective. We went to Pancakes at/on the Rocks for a late lunch yesterday. It was ok. Very causal. Food was ok.

Bit of an old post, but just an update as we stayed here for one night post cruise back on 3rd April 2015. Was extremely impressed with size and decor of rooms - believe the hotel has just completed a recent soft refurb.

Huge bathroom with separate bath and shower, we had a 2 x double bed room and found plenty of closet space, a desk and large 37cm TV built into the wall more than met our requirements.

The beds were HEAVENLY comfortable! Maybe some would say soft but I think they had a memory foam overlay so you sank into them and they moulded to you. We loved them!

Found the hotel an easy walk from the Ocean Passenger Terminal (OPT) aside from the short uphill walk from George St into Jamieson St, but we had spinner luggage so it wasn't too bad!

The hotel is an easy walk to Wynard or Circular Quay station, 10-15 min walk to Darling Harbour and 5 min walk to Circular Quay and the Rocks area. 10 min walk to the central shopping district, Queen Victoria Building, David Jones etc. There was a Starbucks just around the corner as well as a few other boutique coffee spots for a caffeine fix :-)

One 'negative' was that the hotel itself is located in a corporate area of town - so on the weekend a lot of the coffee shops are closed and the nearby area is very quiet. But just something to be aware of - its such a central location overall you won't have far to go to find whatever you're after!

We didn't use much of the in house facilities, except the pool which was nice and included a spa and sauna and separate steam room. The floor however was extremely slippery and we slipped a few times, as did many others - luckily with no one falling. We mentioned this as a concern upon checkout.

Overall I would rate this hotel 8/10 - and an excellent option for pre or post cruise accommodation.
